Alive or Not?: In a sunny greenhouse, picture cards say their names. Kids decide what's alive, what living things need, the parts of a plant, which group an animal belongs to and the steps in a life cycle.

Animal Homes: On field-guide pages, kids match animals with their homes and habitats. They sort animals by where they live, see how bodies are built for a place (fins, gills, fur) and tell animals that are awake by day from those awake at night.

Practice it at home

On a walk, sort what you see into living and not living. Is a rock alive? A tree? A cloud?
Look for animal homes outside, like nests, holes and webs, and guess who lives there.
