Break numbers up to 10 into pairs in more than one way.
K.OA.A.3 is part of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. Make Ten practices it. Standards vary by state, so check with your kid’s teacher for the exact match.
Make Ten: A hen lays eggs in an egg-carton ten-frame, and your kid works out how many more fill it. That's the make-ten fact (7 and 3, 6 and 4) that later mental math is built on. A miss lights up the empty spots to count, and every first-try answer hatches a chick.
