Pick out the first, middle and last sounds in three-sound words.
RF.K.2.D is part of the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts. These 2 games practice it. Standards vary by state, so check with your kid’s teacher for the exact match.
Sound Detective: A clue picture sits under a magnifying glass, and kids find the sound: the first sound in the word, then the last, then the middle. Later levels add sh, ch and th, and finding words with the same sound.
Sound Boxes: Kids hear a word, count its sounds, then fill one box per sound with letter blocks (Elkonin boxes, the same method many teachers use). Words grow from three to four sounds, then add sh, ch, th and blends.
