3.OA.A.1 is part of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. These 2 games practice it. Standards vary by state, so check with your kid’s teacher for the exact match.
Array Orchard: In an apple orchard, multiplication starts as equal groups of apples and rows of trees. Kids count arrays, write them as a × sentence, plant an array to match one, and see that turning an array around gives the same total.
Kangaroo Hops: A kangaroo makes equal hops along a number line, so 4 × 3 is three hops of four. Kids say where it lands, write the multiplication, work out how many hops, then take on harder facts and word problems.
Practice it at home
Find arrays around the house: egg cartons, muffin tins, window panes. Ask how many rows, how many in each row, how many in all.
Take giant steps of the same length across a room and count by that number with each step.
