Compare two objects to see which has more of something, like longer or heavier.
K.MD.A.2 is part of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. These 2 games practice it. Standards vary by state, so check with your kid’s teacher for the exact match.
Measure It: On a craft table, kids compare which thing is longer or shorter, measure with blocks, then use a ruler in inches and in centimeters. The last level puts the object somewhere other than zero on the ruler, the classic mistake.
Weigh It: At a farmers' market stall, kids use a balance to tell heavier from lighter and to balance it. Then they pick sensible units: ounces or pounds, cups or gallons, grams or liters.
