Know that a final e and vowel teams make long vowel sounds.
RF.1.3.C is part of the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts. These 3 games practice it. Standards vary by state, so check with your kid’s teacher for the exact match.
Magic E: A sparkly e flies onto a word and changes the vowel: cap becomes cape, kit becomes kite. Kids work through a_e, i_e, o_e and u_e words, take the e away to see what's left, and choose the word that makes sense in a sentence.
Word Mix-Up: A sentence has a blank and a pile of scrambled letter blocks. Kids unscramble the word that finishes it. Words follow phonics patterns in order: short vowels, sh, ch, th, wh and ck, blends, silent e and vowel teams.
Vowel Team Sort: At a little post office, each envelope has a word with its vowel team missing. Kids post it in the right mailbox: ai or ay, ee or ea, oa or ow, ow or ou, then a mix of all of them.
